UNC Charlotte Students Attack Illegal Dumping
Students from UNC Charlotte’s Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, Kappa Delta sorority, and student chapter of Habitat for Humanity partnered with CHARP and the Reid Park Neighborhood Association in a massive cleanup of several illegal dumping sites in the community on Saturday, January 28.
Illegal dumping in Reid Park is a major issue. Because this community has so much vacant land, predatory dumpers who live outside the neighborhood have identified several sites in which they frequently deposit large amounts of trash, including tires, construction equipment, and electronics. This is problematic for several reasons: it contributes to neighborhood blight, and is also environmentally unsound. Furthermore, it is disgusting and disrespectful to the residents of Reid Park. The Reid Park Neighborhood Association and CHARP are working together to raise awareness about this issue in the hopes of preventing this behavior in the future.
