Barbara Pinson-Lash
Barbara Pinson Lash is a PhD Student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She joined the Geography PhD program in 2016 after a seasoned career as a News Broadcaster, Professional Speaker, Media & Communications Coach, and Entrepreneur.
Spending 20 years working for news stations across the country, taking to the stage in various Public Speaking roles, and embracing a passion for sports has prepared her for her 2nd calling – helping others (especially athletes) find their voice, hone their communication skills and share their stories. Now she is combining her passion and expertise with research – studying how the traditional news media covers topics like athletics and crime, and how that helps shape urban geography.
She’s the creator of CoachB-TV, author of Athletes and the Media: Bridging the Gap and If You Died Today, Would You Live On? Your Legacy Needs Your Attention! She’s also spent several years in education at the collegiate level, was a Director for the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, and enjoys giving back to the community by giving young adults the tools and confidence to speak publicly. Barbara is a wife, a mother and a woman of faith.
