Youth make connections between health and community planning
Jamese Pinkston of CHARP led a group of 12 youth through a discussion about the importance of health in community planning. Youth worked with facilitators from Stratford Richardson YMCA as well as CHARP members and associates. Carolina Health System’s Department of Family Medicine also acted as a partner and faciliatators of the workshop. Youth discussed different types of health and how to define those types of health. The students learned about how certain types of health issues can impact their quality of life. The participants also engaged in building their own city using a technique called Box City. They were allowed to build a neighborhood and city that they would want to live in and would provide the best life experience. We want to thank the kids that participated, the Stratford Richardson YMCA staff, CHS’s Department of Family Medicine for making it a great experience.
